Description:
This violin has a sweet, warm, and round sound. It is responsive and even across the four strings.
It bears a printed label that reads:
J. B. VUILLAUME N170
Rue Croix-des Petits Champs, a Paris an 1829
The back is formed from two pieces of quarter-cut maple, marked by medium-narrow-width flame that slants downward from the center joint. The wood of the ribs and scroll is similar to that of the back. The two-piece spruce top has straight, wide, even grain.
The instrument is covered with a warm light brown varnish over a pale gold ground. The violin is in very good condition, particularly for its age, which we estimate to be ca. 1910-1920.
