Warranties

Many instruments, bows, and other items sold by the Metzler Violin Shop carry the manufacturers’ own warranties which may be learned by visiting the Manufacturers’ websites.

Metzler Violin Shop also offer’s its own limited warranties on instruments and bows in addition to any manufacturers’ warranties, as explained here:

1.)  Instruments

Metzler warranties the following for a period of 12 months from the date of purchase:

Pegs will fit properly, and will hold pitch without slipping.  Pegs may need to be lubricated or adjusted during this period, and Metzler will do this for free if the instrument is brought back to our workshop.

The fingerboard and nut are warrantied to have the correct curves, heights, and dimensions to insure the instrument is easy to play and free of string rattle, and that the fingerboard will remain tightly glued to the neck.

The bridge is warrantied to be of the correct height thickness and curvature.

The fine tuner (or tuners) will remain functional, and the nylon or kevlar tail-gut will remain unbroken and of the correct length.

The sound-post is warrantied to remain upright, unless the strings have been allowed to go slack.

The front and back of the instrument will remain glued to the sides.  It is not uncommon for a seam to pop open, and Metzler will reglue any open seams on the sides at no charge during the warranty period.

The end-button, end-pin and saddle will remain properly attached to the instrument.

The neck will remain firmly glued into the body of the instrument.

Repaired cracks that exist at the time of sale are warrantied to remain glued.

Exclusions:

Metzler excludes the following from its warranties:

No new cracks of any kind are covered by our warranty, including to the body, neck, bridge, or any other part of the instrument.  This is why musical instrument insurance is so important.

Varnish wear, loss, bubbling, scratches and dings are not covered.

Bridge warpage or breakage is not covered by the warranty.  It is the responsibility of the purchaser to keep the bridge pulled back to an upright position every time the instrument is played.

Strings are never covered by our warranty, whether it be breakage, defects, or dissatisfaction with the sound.

For all warranty service it is the owner’s responsibility to cover the cost of shipping and insurance to and from the Metzler Violin Shop in Glendale, California.

2.)  Bows

Metzler warranties the following for a period of 6 months from the date of purchase:

The bow will loosen and tighten properly.

Rehair:  It is normal for bow-hair to stretch over time.  However, your bow will be re-haired if the hair becomes so long that the bow cannot be properly tightened during the warranty period.

The wooden plugs holding the hair will stay in place.

The bow-frog will fit securely against the bow-stick without excessive wiggle.

The bow-stick will not warp.

The button will remain attached to the steel screw, and the brass eyelet in the frog will remain functional.

Exclusions:

Bow hair:  It is quite normal for a bow to loose up to 20 hairs in a 6-month period under normal playing.  Hair loss greater than this is always the result of either insect damage (carpet beetles) or excessively aggressive playing.  Therefore, loss of bow hair is never covered by our warranty.

Breakage or cracks to the stick, frog, or ivory or synthetic head-plate are never covered.  This is why musical instrument / bow insurance is so important.

Wear to the metal or plastic grip is not covered, nor any wear to the thumb-leather.

For all warranty service it is the owner’s responsibility to cover the cost of shipping and insurance to and from the Metzler Violin Shop in Glendale, California.
