$15,000.00
Code: VN~S165-1

Thomas Bertrand Bruxelles 2000

Round, clear, full

Thomas Bertrand has concentrated on creating characterful instruments for demanding musicians for over three decades. He makes violins, violas and cellos in the tradition of the 17th and 18th century Italian masters of Cremona and Venice. He is also a master of sound optimization. His relationship with string players, their approach to music, their aspirations, and the need to realize these in practice are at the heat of his work. Thanks to these relationships, combined with his mastery of styles and techniques and a profound knowledge of wood, Bertrand’s instruments have become well renowned.

The back of this violin is one piece of quarter-cut maple with lovely narrow flame. The top is two pieces of spruce with grain that is narrow and even. The scroll is evidence of Bertrand’s craftsmanship - with its delicate carving and black outlining. The violin is covered in a light orange-brown varnish that is antiqued and shaded to reveal a golden ground.

Bertrand’s instruments are known for their complex, balanced and powerful sound - giving musicians an incredibly wide range of expressive possibilities.

The tone of this violin is beautifully clear and full, with a roundness that is pleasing both under the ear and across a hall.
The interior label reads : Thomas Bertrand Bruxelles 2000.
The violin is in excellent condition.
