Matthias Klotz I - 1/2 size violin, repaired & reinforced, on Cozio Archives
This violin is over 300 years old!
Matthias Klotz I (1653-1743) was the first in this family of famous German violin makers. Matthias founded the Mittenwald school and learned his craft in Füssen or Vlis, possibly even with Jacob Stainer himself. "Matthias also trained in Padua, Italy for six years with Giovanni Railich. Matthias' work, which is clearly influenced by Stainer, shows good craftsmanship" (Tarisio).
