Matteo Mazzotti A. Poggi model 2021 Cremona
Vibrant, playable, powerful
Matteo Mazzotti was born in 1979. As a child, he showed a precocious interest in music and while attending the workshop in Piacenza of his grandfather Oreste Mazzocchi, a well-known cabinet-maker, he had the opportunity to learn “how to work the wood”. He studied his craft in Cremona and in 2000, he got a degree as “Maestro Liutaio,” Master Luthier. After that he worked at Master Massimo Negroni’s workshop, getting the opportunity to improve his knowledge of the Cremona classic stylistics as well as the hundred-year-old secrets of violin polishing. He finally opened his own workshop in Piacenza where he lives.
This instrument is a lovely example of a contemporary display of Cremonese traditions. The back is one piece of quarter cut maple with beautiful medium flame that is tighter at the bottom of the instrument. The ribs and scroll match the back. The elongated F-holes display Mazzotti’s skill and knowledge of his craft. The top is two pieces of spruce with even and narrow grain. The violin is coated with a golden amber varnish over a pale golden ground.
The violin has a tone that is vibrant, powerful, and very playable.
The interior label reads: Matteo Mazzotti Cremonensis fece in Piacenza Anno 2021. ‘MM’ is branded next to the label as well as on the back of the instrument.
This instrument is in excellent condition.
