Lovely American Violin, Mark D. Moreland 1987
Brilliant, responsive, precise
Mark Moreland is an internationally respected award-winning luthier. Trained in both instrument making and restoration, Mark has an intimate familiarity with the working methods, materials, and design strengths of the greatest old masters. It is the unique capability of today’s violin makers to combine thorough knowledge of masterpieces of the past with recent research into materials and techniques that allows Mark to create such tonally and artistically successful violins, violas, and cellos. Each of Mark Moreland’s hand-made instruments is one-of-a-kind and they are only available in very limited numbers.
The back of this violin is crafted from two beautiful pieces of quarter cut maple, with narrow flame that slants slightly up from the center joint. The ribs and scroll match the back, adding a continuity to the instrument as a whole. The top is two piece spruce with grain that is narrow and straight. The violin is coated in a lovely golden amber varnish with shading to a golden ground.
This contemporary instrument has a brilliant sound that is quick to respond and precise in its clarity.
The interior label reads: ‘Mark D Moreland, Portland OR, 1987 #26’ and the makers signature.
The violin is in excellent condition.
