Federico Fiora 1998 Cremona Italy
Mellow, pure, clear
Federico Fiora was born in 1972 and studied violin making in Cremona in 1990, under the guidance of masters Ezio Scarpini and Stefano Conia. He had his apprenticeship under the guidance of violin making master Gio Batta Morassi until 1993. In 1996, he opened his own workshop, currently situated in Cremona. Fiora draws inspiration for his instruments from the rich Cremonese tradition.
This violin is a lovely example of this tradition. The back is two pieces of quarter-cut maple with medium flame - the ribs and scroll match the back. The top is two pieces of spruce with narrow grain and beautiful subtle figuring. The figuring on both top and back is accentuated by the light golden varnish which has been tastefully shaded to reveal a pale-golden ground.
The violin has a very pure tone that is mellow and clear. The tone is very pleasing both under the ear and in the hall, and the instrument is delightful to play.
The interior label reads: Federico Fiora fece in Cremona 1998 - alongside an illustration.
The violin is in excellent condition.
