The back is formed from two pieces of quarter-cut maple, marked by medium-narrow-width flame, which slants upward from the center joint. The wood on the ribs and scroll is similar to that of the back. The two-piece spruce top has straight, even, very narrow grain.
The instrument is covered with a reddish-brown varnish which has been antiqued and shaded by the maker to reveal a golden brown ground. This instrument is in new condition.
