In remarkable condition, this Ch. J.B. Collin-Mezin pere violin was made in 1879, and sounds as beautiful as it looks. Crisp corners, no chinrest markings, and a stunning one-piece back makes for a rare opportunity to own a near-pristine instrument made by one of the preeminent French makers of the 19th century during the height of his career.

Born in Mirecourt, it is thought that Collin-Mezin spent time studying with Nicolas Vuillaume before establishing his own workshop in Paris. Many world-famous violinists played on Collin-Mezin's violins during his time, including Joseph Joachim and Camillo Sivori. Winning numerous awards throughout his lifetime, he left a lasting legacy with his son and grandson, who continued to carry the family name and reputation through the Collin-Mezin workshop.
