Viola Bow based on a N. R. Maire
This bow is my interpretation of a bow by Nicolas Remy Maire. The original is a violin bow but given its head height, I thought it would make a beautiful viola bow. I wanted to follow the bold, square feeling of the original, but give it a little more roundness and elegance suited for the viola. The tall, bold head and semi-square frog is balanced by a supple pernambuco stick with a silver headplate. This gives the bow a more dynamic playing style while maintaining a nice flex and weight that stays in the string.
Cameron is a member of the American Federation of Violin and Bow Makers (AFVBM). His bow making is inspired by the great French makers that he regularly sees and handles in his bow studio in Atlanta, Georgia
“I make bows because I love them and am fascinated by them. I love how unique each bow is and how a bow can help a player not only bring a piece of music to life but also bring out the different nuances of a particular piece of music.
When making, my focus is to accentuate the beauty of the materials and the graceful lines of the bow to ensure that it is as pleasing to the eye as it is an extension of the player’s arm. I want nothing more than for a player to love their bow and to have an exceptional playing experience.”
