Arturo Virgoletti 1985 Italy
Precise, radiant, carrying
Virgoletti is the son of a woodworker and lute maker and was introduced to violin making by renowned Italian luthier Ferdinando Garimberti. After making several violins, he began a ten-year apprenticeship with Sesto Rocchi. For the last 20 years Virgoletti has earned the reputation worldwide for making wonderful sounding instruments. Vigoletti's violins are beautifully made and carry a full, resonant and powerful tone with many colors to explore. His instruments are rooted in the Cremonese tradition and showcase the passing down of these techniques through many generations.
Virgoletti’s knowledge of his craft is evident in the construction of this violin and the wood chosen. The back is one piece of maple with beautiful narrow flame that slants down slightly from left to right. The ribs and the scroll match the back, and the craftsmanship is evident in these. The top is two pieces of spruce with medium grain and lovely unique figuring. The instrument is coated with a golden-orange varnish that has been thoughtfully shaded to reveal a golden ground.
The violin has a radiant tone that is carrying as well as precise. It is delightfully playable and adaptable throughout all registers.
The interior label reads : Arturo Virgoletti Trinite Reggio E. fece l’anno 1985, alongside a maker's stamp and signature. Handwritten is “Allievo ‘Sesto Rocchi’”.
The violin is in excellent condition.
