This uncirculated violin bow, made by Arthur Bultitude, was made in 1973, about 12 years after leaving the employment of W.E. Hill & Sons.
Joining the Hill firm in 1922, Bultitude was picked by Retford to start bowmaking in 1925. After becoming manager, he used his mastery to train new bowmakers. He continued working independently from 1961, producing more than 2,000 bows.
The beautiful polished tortoise-shell frog is mounted with chased (engraved) gold fittings, and his signature inlaid gold Tudor Roses, whale-bone grip and handsome octagonal Pernambuco stick. This is a true collector's bow, and even still has the original hair. A new rehair is offered with the sale, but some collectors may wish to have the bow left in the absolute original condition with original hair. The weight is 62.2 grams. Because this bow has components made from tortoise-shell and whale baleen, this bow cannot be carried or shipped outside of the United States. The purchaser of this bow should never travel internationally with this bow for fear of confiscation at any number of customs checkpoints. hillcollection
