Home Trial FAQs

Q: How do I try an instrument or bow before purchasing?

A: We understand how important it is to thoroughly audition a potential new instrument or bow. We offer a one-week, no-obligation trial loan for any item you are seriously considering for purchase. During this time, we encourage you to play in various environments, consult with your teacher, and get comfortable with the instrument.

Q: What is required to take an item on trial?

A: To take an instrument or bow on trial, we require a photocopy or scan of two active, current credit or debit cards and a photo ID. This helps us ensure the security of the loan. If you prefer, you may also call us to provide your credit card numbers over the phone.

Q: Can I get a trial loan if I’m not local?

A: Yes! We offer shipped loans for customers who are not local. However, cellos are generally excluded from this option due to safety concerns during shipping. To begin the trial process, simply contact us, and we’ll arrange the details.

Q: Who is responsible for the shipping costs when taking an item on trial?

A: You are responsible for the shipping costs both to and from our shop when taking an item on trial, unless you decide to purchase the item. If you do make a purchase, we will deduct the shipping fees from the purchase price. Please contact us for an estimate of shipping costs based on your location and the number of items you are trialing.

Q: How is shipping handled for trial loans?

A: We use FedEx or UPS depending on what’s most suitable for your area. The shipping cost will vary depending on the number of items and your location, and we can provide an estimate once we have those details. Please call or email us for more information.

Q: Are there any charges if I keep the item for an extended period?

A: Yes, if you keep a bow on trial for more than two weeks, a rehair charge of $120 will apply. You may incur additional charges if an item is kept out beyond the agreed upon limit. Please reach out to us if circumstances require an extension to your loan.

Q: Is the instrument covered by insurance during the trial loan?

A: Yes, Metzler Violin Shop’s insurance covers the instrument or bow during transit and the loan period. This coverage is valid as long as the damage is not due to negligence, theft, or intentional harm. Please be sure to take proper care of the item during the trial.

Q: How do I return the items I’ve taken on trial?

A: When you're ready to return all or part of your loan items, please contact us first to request a shipping label. We will generate the label based on whether you're returning all or part of your loaned items. Once the label is provided, simply pack the items securely and ship them back to us.

Q: What are the accepted payment methods?

A: Our preferred payment methods are personal check, Zelle, bank wire transfer, and cash. We also accept credit cards, but for amounts in excess of $5,000, a 3% surcharge will be added.

Q: How do I get started with a trial loan?

A: Simply contact us via phone or email, and we’ll guide you through the process. We’re happy to assist you in finding the perfect instrument or bow!
