Dominique Peccatte cello bow, Raffin Certificate, silver mounted, grafted under grip | Metzler Violins

$89,000.00
Code: BWCL-T54-1

This bow was made by Dominique Peccatte, although the frog and button were made by his brother, Francois Peccatte.  The bow is in very good, but not perfect condition.  The quality and beauty of the wood is first class, and there is no damage to the head or the stick itself, except under the silver grip, where the stick has been grafted.  There is a mild twist to the stick, which does not seem to be detrimental to the performance.  There are no cracks in the frog, but there is wear to the thumb-projection from many decades of playing.  The bow weighs 71.3 grams.

Translation of D. Peccatte certificate by J.F. Raffin

"The key features of the bow are:

  1.  Stick:
    • Made of round, high-quality pernambuco wood, reddish-brown with dark grains
    • Length: 68.5 cm.
    • Rear splice on the stick under the silver grip.
  2.  Frog:
    • Made of ebony with mother of pearl eyes.
    • Mounted in silver.
    • Slightly rounded edges at the under-slide.
    • Rounded heel fixed with three pins.
    • Under-slide fixed with two screws.
  3.  Button:
    • Made of ebony and silver in three pieces.
    • Double groove design.
    • One pin in each ring.

The bow is described as a beautiful specimen by Dominique Peccatte, with the frog and button attributed to François Peccatte, in good, restored condition and made around 1845."
