Description:
A beautiful Maggini copy from an unkown maker, this cello has a very dark, mellow, and sweet sound. Paired with a small body, the string length is also on the shorter end, making playing much easier for cellists with smaller hands.
The back is formed from two pieces of unfigured quarter-cut maple with added wings at the flanks and decorative inlay below the button. The wood of the ribs and scroll are similar to that of the back, with the scroll being grafted onto a maple neck of more pronounced flame. The two-piece spruce top has straight and very narrow grain, widening toward the flanks, and added wings at the flanks of the lower bouts. The instrument is covered in a dark brown varnish with a pale brown ground beneath. The cracks on the instrument have been well repaired, keeping the cello in good condition.
