The back of this violin is formed from two pieces of quarter-cut maple, marked by narrow-width flame, which slants downward from the center joint. The wood on the ribs and scroll is similar to that of the back. The grain of the two-piece spruce top is straight, narrow, and even.
The instrument is covered with a dark, reddish-brown varnish, over a pale brown ground. The varnish is minimally antiqued and shaded by the maker, and it bears a moderate amount of wear on the corners and C-bouts of the instrument’s face.
