The sound of this unlabeled violin is even and mellow, with a fine textured sound particularly on the lower strings.
The back of the violin is formed from one piece of quarter-cut maple, marked by medium-width flame, which slants downward from the treble side. The wood on the ribs is similar to that of the back, while the wood on the scroll is more narrowly flamed. The grain of the two-piece spruce top is straight, even, and very narrow.
The instrument is covered with reddish-brown varnish that has been antiqued and shaded by the maker to reveal a pale brown ground. This instrument is in new condition.
