Gaffino was born near or in Turin but spent his entire adult life in Paris, where he apprenticed with his brother-in-law Andre Castagneri before establishing his own workshop in 1742. His work is Vieux-Paris in character, following the style of Castagneri.

An outstanding example of a cello from the old French school, this cello is in excellent condition, and has been lovingly played and cared for by a professional cellist for decades.
