Description:
This 4/4 German violin has a sound that is bassy, complex, and responsive.
It bears a printed label that reads:
MADE IN THE ATELIER OF
CARL R. KESSLER
DRESDEN 1920
The back of this violin is formed from two pieces of quarter-cut maple, marked by narrow-width flame, which slants slightly downward from the center joint. The wood on the ribs and scroll is similar to that of the back. The grain of the two-piece spruce top is straight and narrow, widening slightly towards the flanks.
The instrument is covered with a light orange-brown varnish, over a pale gold ground. It is in great condition, with minimal cosmetic wear to the varnish.
