"Stainer" violin, ca 1900, labeled "Andreas Hopf Stainer in Bologna 1750"

"Stainer" violin, ca 1900, labeled "Andreas Hopf Stainer in Bologna 1750"

$4,700.00
Code: VN#5036

This German violin from Saxony dates to about 1905. Despite the city name of "Bologna" on the label, the maker is fictitious, and the violin is certainly of German origin. The many dark, bold scratches all over the instrument are purposely done, and are typical of the antiquing process of that period, as are the fake cracks, fake neck-graft and fake peg-hole bushings. The violin has a lovely one-piece maple back, and the instrument is in great condition.
