This instrument is part of our fourth annual Contemporary American Makers Exhibition.
Born and raised in Sonoma California Anna attended UC Santa Cruz, studying
Anthropology and visual arts. An interest in American fiddle music and folk art led
her to an apprenticeship at Vermont Violins, this shop experience led Anna to
pursue violin making.
In 1998 Anna enrolled at North Bennet Street School of Boston where she studied
violin making under Kevin Kelly, graduating from the program in 2001. While in
Boston, Anna had the opportunity to work with Arthur Toman learning instrument
set up, tone-adjustment, repair and restoration. While working in Toman’s shop
she had the good fortune to observe many fine instruments in the hands of their
masters.
In 2006, Anna relocated her shop to Portland, Oregon. Over the years she has
participated in the Oberlin Summer Violin Makers Workshop several times, and
traveled abroad for exhibitions as well as participated in national lutherie events.
