Samuel Zyman was born in 1956 in Mexico City, where he studied piano and conducting at the National Conservatory of Music. He received MM and and DMA degrees in composition from the Julliard school and hass been on the Juilliard faculty since 1987.
Zyman has received numerous awards and commissions world-wide. Dr. Zyman has written more than 30 compositions in a wide variety of genres, both symphonic and chamber. Zyman's music has been heard in concerto halls around the world and is recorded on Island Records, I.M.P. Masters, Urtext Digital Classics, Ambassador, Sony Classics, EMI, and Quindecim.

He received MM and DMA degrees in composition from The Juilliard School, studying with the American composers Stanley Wolfe, Roger Sessions, and David Diamond, and he has been on the Juilliard faculty since 1987, in the Department of Literature and Materials of Music (Music Theory).Zyman has received numerous awards and commissions from American, Mexican, and other organizations, including a cello concerto commissioned by Absolut Vodka, written for the worldrenowned Mexican cellist Carlos Prieto, and premiered by the American Symphony Orchestra at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall. Dr. Zyman has written more than 30 compositions in a wide variety of genres, ranging from his two symphonies to concertos for piano, flute, guitar, and harp; a double concerto for flute and harp; a concertino for violin, piano, and wind ensemble; many chamber works (including a string quartet); and the original symphonic score for the critically acclaimed film "The Other Conquest," directed by Salvador Carrasco and produced by Alvaro Domingo. Zyman's film score was recorded by the Academy of Saint-Martin-in-the-Fields, conducted by David Snell, and it includes the aria "Mater Aeterna," performed by Plcido Domingo.
